Westchester County is currently finalizing plans for the improvement of north and south Ridge Street from the Hutchinson River Parkway into the City of Rye. As a result of negotiations between the County of Westchester and the Village of Rye Brook, the County provided additional funding under the Legacy Program for the Rye Brook Athletic Fields complex on King Street, and the County also agreed to several improvements on Ridge Street beyond a normal repaving project. These improvements include additional drainage, concrete curbs, and concrete sidewalks in areas not previously provided between the Hutchinson River Parkway and Westchester Avenue. Once the County completes this project, which will also include milling and paving, the Village will own the portion of Ridge Street from King Street to Westchester Avenue. The rest of the roadway will still be owned and maintained by Westchester County. Until such time as the project is completed, Westchester County will continue to own and maintain the entire length of Ridge Street.
The County is anticipating that the Ridge Street construction project plans will be finalized soon, and then they will send the plans to NYS for their approval since the project is funded through a federal grant to the County. Westchester County anticipates that construction will begin on Ridge Street in Spring 2009.
Representatives from Westchester County also provided an update to the Village Board at their regular meeting held on January 8, 2008, and held a separate informational meeting with residents on February 13, 2008 in Rye Brook Village Hall. A copy of the County’s February 13 meeting notice can be found here. In order to assist the County in noticing this meeting, the Village sent a Reverse 911 message to residents on Ridge Street informing them of the date and time of the informational meeting and encouraging residents to meet with the County representatives in Village Hall.
The Village will periodically update our web site for the latest news on this important County project.
