Bidding for Edgewood Basin
Release Date: July 02, 2009

July 2, 2009

Dear Rye Brook Residents:

On Monday, June 29, 2009 the Village publicly opened bids for the detention basin near Edgewood Drive and Bluebird Hollow.  The following is a summary of the bids:

Company Name                               Bid Amount

Bilotta Construction

$  833,858.00

Con-Tech Construction

$  840,846.60

Peter J. Landi, Inc.

$1,046,395.00

ElQ

$1,077,993.00

Coppola Paving

$1,874,000.00

Cassidy Excavating

$2,348,630.00

The lowest bids are still considerably more than the $473,750 anticipated budget for this project, which includes $218,750 from a NYS grant.  As a result, our engineering consultant, Dolph Rotfeld Engineering, is reviewing the line items submitted in the bids to see where costs exceeded the anticipated budget.

The Village Board will soon be considering the various options for this project, which will likely include the following choices:

1. Award the existing bid.
2. Seek additional grant funding.
3. Scale back the project scope and re-bid.
4. Do not proceed with this project.

These options, and possibly others, will be thoroughly discussed at a special workshop meeting of the Village Board to be scheduled in the near future  at Village Hall.

The Village Board has also become aware of certain questions and concerns from residents regarding the blasting of rock anticipated as part of this project.  This item will also be thoroughly discussed with our consultant at the special workshop meeting of the Village Board so that residents' concerns can be addressed prior to any potential bid award.

I invite all members of the Rye Brook community to attend any public meetings on this subject, and to continually check our web site at www.ryebrook.org for regular updates on this project and the time and date of the special workshop meeting.

Sincerely,
Joan L. Feinstein

Mayor
