Storm Debris Removal on Curb by Dec. 3rd
Release Date: November 28, 2012

Storm Debris Must Be at the Curb by Monday, December 3rd:
Storm debris collection from Hurricane Sandy continues as public works crews are balancing leaf collection while assisting residents with storm debris cleanup. Public work crews have made approximately one pass through the entire village collecting storm debris as a result of Hurricane Sandy and will make one additional pass through the village beginning next week.  Residents must place all storm debris, consisting of branches, limbs, or small logs of a reasonable size (i.e. handled by hand by one person) at curbside by December 3, 2012.  At that time public work crews will make one additional pass on each street throughout the village to collect storm debris.  After this collection all green waste will be collected by the village’s contractor for normal green waste pickup and procedures.
Residents are asked to be patient with the collection of leaves and branches, and to please follow the procedures below which will make the program proceed more efficiently:

  • Please do not place branches or limbs in the leaf piles.  They are collected by different equipment and will significantly slow down operations and could break leaf vacuum equipment.
  • Please do not place any branches or limbs in the street.  They must be placed on the lawns.  Branches in the street can block storm drains, and may affect leaf collection or snow plowing operations.
  • The highway department will assist with picking up limbs, branches, and small logs of a manageable size (i.e. handled by hand by one person) that cannot reasonably be tied up or placed in a container.  These items must be placed by the curb (not in the street) before Monday, December 3rd.  After this date, normal green waste collection procedures apply.
  • Entire trees removed from properties should not be placed at the curb and should be removed off site by the property owner or tree service that removed the tree.
  • Please make every effort to tie up any smaller loose branches or limbs and place them in an open container for collection by the village’s contractor for normal Wednesday green waste collection pickup.
Any questions about collection procedures should be directed to Public Works at (914) 939-0753.
