Office of Mayor Lawrence A. Rand
The Village of Rye Brook has been advised by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that they will need to perform additional soil testing near the pathway where a small amount of mercury was found on April 29, 2004. Additional tests by the EPA since April have revealed that there are other locations in the immediate vicinity of this original site where there is mercury present. While the EPA is taking additional samples and conducting further tests, the EPA has closed access on the pathway and the surrounding area. These tests will be performed later this month and we have been advised that we will be informed of the results in October, at which time they will prepare a remediation plan.
“Since this is the site of a prior EPA mercury cleanup project in the early 1990’s, it is imperative that the EPA clean up the site as thoroughly and expeditiously as possible so that the issue is resolved once and for all for the residents of Rye Brook,” said Mayor Rand.Dated: September 2, 2004
