A letter to the Rye Brook Community:
As we reported to you several months ago, the county, town, village, and school district have been engaged in litigation with Signature Flight Support, a fixed based operator at the Westchester County Airport, who was seeking to become tax exempt. If successful, this action could have resulted in costing Blind Brook taxpayers millions of dollars and Rye Brook village taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in the repayment of taxes to Signature as well as the loss of future tax payments.
We are very pleased to announce that the County Board of Legislators approved (and the County Executive signed) legislation that has paved the way for a favorable resolution of this case. This legislation will bring much-needed surety to the county, school district, and the village, with a tax-paying operator who will be providing substantial revenue to the airport for many years to come.
The issue with Signature Flight was very complex, necessitating the involvement not just of elected officials, but all of our community. We are very proud of the effort everyone made to come out in support of Rye Brook and show once again what we can accomplish when we work together.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to County Executive Rob Astorino, Board of Legislators Chairman Michael Kaplowitz, County Legislator David Gelfarb, and the Blind Brook PTA and community for supporting us in our efforts to achieve this much needed outcome.
Nancy Barr, President, Blind Brook School Board
Paul Rosenberg, Mayor, Village of Rye Brook
Joe Carvin, Supervisor, Town of Rye
