Dear Rye Brook Residents:
I have just participated in Con Ed’s municipal storm conference call. I’m happy to say that the number of homes in Rye Brook without power has decreased from 606 to 256, thanks to some out-of-state power crews. That being said, I know that if your home is one of the 256 homes still without power, this is still an incredibly bad hardship for you, and I strongly conveyed that on the conference call. I realize that there are many people with infants and young children, as well as senior citizens whose homes have no heat. I truly empathize with you in this horrible situation.
I am in direct communication with County Executive George Latimer, and we are putting as much pressure as we can on Con Ed to finish their restoration in Rye Brook.
Some important points from the Con Ed conference call:
- Con Ed has called in out-of-state crews, the majority of which are arriving today. By the end of the day, they will have 275 restoration crews working in Westchester.
- The “global” (meaning 90% of customers) Estimated Time for Restoration is 11:00 PM on Tuesday, March 6th. For those residents whose power line is down which connects their individual home to the main street power line, their restoration may be Wednesday, March 7th.
- Con Ed is distributing dry ice today at New Rochelle City Hall (rear parking lot). The address is 515 North Avenue, New Rochelle. Distribution will continue today until 6:00 PM.
We have again opened up the Anthony J. Posillipo Community Center at 32 Garibaldi Place as a warming center. You can also go there to charge your phones/tablets and to use the Wi-Fi. It is open now and will stay open until 7:00 tonight, or possibly longer if the situation warrants it.
As far as we are still aware, Anderson Hill, upper Lincoln Avenue near Purchase College, and Old Oak are still closed due to down trees/power lines.
I have received several emails from residents asking about when Cablevision/Optimum services will be restored. Their network depends more on pole-based electricity then the Verizon FIOS network. That being the case, the downed power lines & lack of electricity to certain neighborhoods would account for these service interruptions. It is important that you report these service outages to Cablevision/Optimum.
I will provide another update as warranted.
