Mayor's Storm Update (3-6-18)
Release Date: March 06, 2018

Dear Rye Brook Residents:

Here is the status of where we stand regarding the ongoing power outages and storm-related issues:

  • There are 157 homes without power in Rye Brook, which includes 81 with partial power in Avon Circle.
  • Anderson Hill is still closed beyond Doral Arrowwood (in Rye Brook) but it is due to wires down in Harrison (Purchase).
  • Rye Brook Public Works and other departments are preparing for the snow storm starting overnight tonight through Thursday early morning, with heaviest snow and some winds expected on Wednesday.
  • Con Ed maintains that 90% of their electrical distribution system will be restored by 11pm tonight.  Others could extend to this Friday and perhaps longer for what they are describing as “difficult jobs”.  For those of you who live in the Old Oak/Red Roof/Elm Hill part of the village and you still don’t have power, Con Ed maintains that if their website says your restoration will be today, then there’s a good chance for restoration today.  But given their performance to date, and the fact that their restoration crew which was here earlier is no longer in the area, I personally don’t believe that you will be restored today, and I think that you should plan accordingly.
  • Con Ed has dry ice available today until 6pm:  New Rochelle City Hall (rear parking lot), 515 No. Avenue & Yorktown K-Mart shopping center parking lot, 355 Downing Drive.

Branches and Tree Limbs:

  • The Village public works staff will pick up storm-related limbs and branches up to four (4) inches in diameter and up to six (6) feet in length.  All such limbs and branches should be placed in an organized manner at the curb by the end of day next Monday, March 12th.  Please do not place any debris in the roadway.
  • Trees, logs and stumps must be removed by the property owner and should not be placed at the curb as they will not be picked up by the Village staff.
  • Street trees and limbs in the public right-of-way that have been damaged by the storm will be removed or trimmed by the Village public works staff or village contractor.

Tree Removals:

  • No tree removal permits are required for the removal of trees that have uprooted (i.e. fallen, leaning) during the storm as long as the homeowner (1) retains documentation (i.e. photos and/or detailed bill from a landscaper) and (2) calls their address into the public works department at (914) 939-0753 on or before Monday, March 12th.

Warming/Charging Center:

  • Warming/Charging Center open today (Monday) at the AJP Community Center, 32 Garibaldi Place, until 4:00 PM (later if necessary).

I know that some of this information may not be what you want to hear, but I am trying to be as transparent as possible and to keep all of you informed with accurate information.  I will update you as soon as there is additional information to share.
