Blind Brook High School Offers Students Life Saving Crash Prevention Course In Memory of Michael Blank

The Blind Brook Community Coalition and The Michael Blank Memorial Fund team with In Control Advanced Driver Training to save lives

RYE BROOK, NY-October 14, 2008—The Blind Brook Community Coalition, The Michael Blank Memorial Fund and Massachusetts-based In Control Advanced Driver Training are working together to offer Rye Brook students a comprehensive crash prevention-training program. Students will take a trip to one of In Control’s fixed site facilities in South Weymouth, Massachusetts from Friday, November 7-Saturday, November 8.

This trip is in memory of former student Michael Blank, who was killed in a Christmas Day crash nearly eight years ago.  In Control will teach students critical driving skills such as emergency breaking, steering acuity, speed control, avoiding distractions, visual scanning and awareness and much more. It is important for young drivers to be trained properly and in a secure environment.  In Control Advanced Driver Training is the first crash prevention school to be certified by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. In Control's training is a hands-on course conducted in a safe environment, giving students the opportunity to actually perform driving techniques that will help them avoid crashes.

“Teens don’t realize how inexperienced they really are when they first begin driving. Statistics show that new drivers are more at risk for car crashes than any other age group,” said Terry Frank, LCSW and District Social Worker. “This is the third year we’ve offered this program to Blind Brook students and participants have consistently applauded In Control’s training.”

Blind Brook High School is taking the first 40 students who sign up. To sign up students or parents should contact Terry Frank at (914) 937-3600 x3144. The deadline to sign up for this trip is Tuesday, October 21.

About In Control Advanced Driver Training

In Control Advanced Driver Training was founded in 2003 by professional racecar driver Brandon Bogart in an effort to lower the number of accidents caused by driver error.  Automobile crashes are the number one killer of people under 45 and In Control’s program has been found to reduce crash rates in new drivers by 70 percent.

The half day In Control program is an extreme crash prevention training course designed to not only teach participants the appropriate way to respond to unavoidable, real-life road situations, but also to instill lifelong attitudes that make safer drivers.  This closed course hands-on education was adapted from existing law enforcement training that Bogart has been instructing for more than a decade.
