Metallic Tasting Water?

Over the past several days the Health Department and NYCDEP received reports from individuals in Westchester County and New York City of metallic tasting water. The source water is New York City water supply. DEP has conducted extensive testing and investigation in response to the consumer complaints. They believe that the metallic tasting water is caused by the natural growth and biological degradation of certain algae. A similar water issue occurred in Massachusetts in 2004 and algae was the cause. The DEP states that the metallic tasting water is safe to drink. DEP has posted an advisory on its website.
