Bill Peterson's Recognition
Release Date: May 11, 2005

William “Bill” Peterson was recognized as the Rye Brook Senior’s very special volunteer at the Carver Center Volunteer Recognition event on May 10, 2005. A life-long resident of Port Chester/Rye Brook, Bill has been involved with the Rye Brook Seniors since they were established in 1984. Prior to that, Bill managed the rentals and activities that occurred at the building located at 32 Garibaldi Place. Once the Rye Brook Seniors became an organization, Bill took over caretaker duties for the original senior center calling upon skills he honed as a carpenter for 25 years. Bill served the Rye Brook Seniors as the recording secretary, created the sign in book, served on many committees during the years and helped out with the lunch program when it got established. For years, Bill set up the coffee service and all the tables whenever the seniors met. Bill is perhaps best known for his piano playing during the morning hours and his rendition of God Bless America at each business meeting.

Bill has been a volunteer at his church, the St. Francis AMC Zion Church. Over the years, he has volunteered his time and skills in renovations at the church.

At age 94, Bill is still a regular participant at the Center and continues to play the piano at our monthly business meetings. The Rye Brook Seniors are proud of Bill Peterson and congratulate him for this recognition.
