Task Force Yields Prostitution Related Arrests

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 

A joint operation by the Greenburgh Police Department, City of Rye Police Department, Village of Rye Brook Police Department, and Village of Elmsford Police Department has resulted in sixty-six (66) prostitution related arrests and the seizure of $21,692.00 dollars between May 18, 2007 and December 20, 2007.

 

The investigation began on March 15, 2007, when the Greenburgh Police Department received an anonymous tip alleging that prostitution was being advertised on a popular website.

 

On March 29, 2007 two females were arrested for prostitution and one male for promoting Prostitution. During the same time period, the City of Rye Police Department and the Rye Brook Police Department were independently developing intelligence indicating that high priced prostitutes were operating in the City of Rye, Village of Rye Brook and throughout Westchester County, advertising their availability on the internet.

 

The four police departments formed a task force to pursue the information. The

Westchester County District Attorney’s office provided legal and logistical support to the operation.

 

In May of 2007 the task force commenced operations in participating jurisdictions, based on the frequency of website postings indicating prostitution was taking place.

The operation between March 29 and December 20, 2007, has resulted in a total of sixty six (66) arrests:

  •  8  arrests for Prostitution- a class B misdemeanor
  •  2  arrest for Prostitution – a class A misdemeanor.(after November 1, 2007)
  •  4   arrests for Promoting Prostitution- a Class A misdemeanor
  • 40  arrests for Patronizing a Prostitute in the fourth degree- a class B misdemeanor.(prior    to November 1, 2007)
  • 11  arrests for Patronizing a Prostitute in the third degree- a class A misdemeanor.(after  November 1, 2007)
  • 1   arrest for Unauthorized Practice of a Profession (Massage Therapy)-an Education Law class E Felony.
  • A total of $21,692.00 dollars were seized as a result of the operation.

 

The defendants arrested for Patronizing a Prostitute came from all walks of life, including the medical profession, business owners, real estate developers, attorneys, civil servants, and a police officer.
