Senator Latimer Announces July 24th “We the People” Town Hall Meeting in Rye Brook

First of several “Community Conversations” for the public County Airport Expected to Be Focus

State Senator George Latimer (D-Rye) has announced the first of several “We the People” town hall “community conversations” he intends to hold this summer, listening to constituents express their concerns and ideas for ways to make the County and state better for the residents of Westchester.

The first one is slated for July 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rye Brook Village Hall (938 King Street). Latimer believes that these community conversations will be different than the typical town hall, which are often a platform for an elected official to speak. The events will utilize an open microphone format, where participants can take up to 4 minutes to explain their thoughts and suggestions, and express their concerns.

“I want to hear what people in the community are thinking about. What they believe we can, and should do differently. What their life experience tells them will make our communities better,” Latimer explained.

Latimer said that in his opinion, the typical “Town Hall” does not really serve elected officials or community members well. “My constituents hear from me all the time. I’m sending them legislative and issue updates, talking to newspapers, radio and T.V. reporters, giving speeches all over. For this system of government to really work, I need to hear more from them as well,” Latimer said.

Latimer said he has set no ending time for the event. “No one should be left out. No one should be turned away. I intend to listen to everyone who chooses to speak, and I know many speakers will find their friends and neighbors right there alongside them,” Latimer added.
